Tarte Tatin: Sara's Cooking Class

Tarte Tatin: Sara’s Cooking Class is a realistic cooking game featuring a real recipe for a shortcrust pie with caramelised apples. Our chef, Sara, will show you step-by-step how to make this pie. 

You can find the full recipe in the game, so, you can also try making tarte tatin at home. The classic recipe is made with apples, but you can also make tarte tatin with pears, pineapple, banana, peaches, or other fruit you like.

What is Tarte Tatin?

Tarte Tatin is a sort of upside down pie. The apples are caramelized first, and left in the pan. The pie crust is put on top, and the whole pan goes into the oven. When you flip the tart over onto a plate, the crust ends up at the bottom, and you can see a pretty pattern of glazed apples on top.

Tarte Tatin was invented by two sisters who ran a hotel, Stéphanie and Caroline Tatin. There are different stories about how the recipe came about. One story is that Stéphanie Tatin was softening some apples in a pan to make a regular apple pie. But she was tired and overworked, and left the apples on the stove too long.

The butter and sugar caramelized the apples. Stéphanie didn’t have time to start over, so she just covered the apples with a pie crust and put the whole pan in the oven to finish the pie quickly. When she served it, her upside-down pie got great reviews from her guests, and became one of Hôtel Tatin’s signature dishes.

How to play Tarte Tatin: Sara’s Cooking Class?

Look at the image shown above and find the item on the counter. Tap the green arrows to cut the apples, flatten the dough with the rolling pin, etc. This game is divided into four parts:

1. First, cut the apples to make chunky wedges.
2. Next, make the pastry dough and set it aside in the fridge.
3. Then, make the caramelized apple filling. Make a caramel sauce with butter, sugar, and a bit of water. Arrange the apple wedges neatly in the pan. This will give the finished pie a beautiful pattern.
4. Place the pie crust on top and poke some holes in it with a fork. Bake the tart in the oven. When the pie is done and has cooled down a bit, put a big plate on top of the pan and flip it over.

Wow! Your tarte tatin is ready to eat! You can add some whipped cream or ice cream when you serve it.
